My
yoga journey started at the age of 9 when my mother registered
me in a yoga class. It was during this time through the practice
of Hatha yoga that I started observing the plays of the mind,
the movement of the body and the flow of breath. Somewhere
deep there was a knowing that I was more than this body and
mind. The seed of spiritual exploration had started sprouting.
The flowering of “Totality” of Yoga started early from home
through mantra chanting and exploration of ancient Indian
wisdom of the Vedas. Over a period of time my practice of
Hatha Yoga acquired a blend of Bhakti (devotion) to it.

India as a land of paradoxes always used to make me question
and contemplate on life, living and existence. It was when I
was 16 I suffered from a near fatal illness and was bed
ridden for 4 months. This is when I took up studying
philosophy, Upanishads and yoga texts to understand myself
better. My meditation practice got deeper; I started putting
the yogic and vedantic principles in practice. Repeated
periods of silence and isolation, wandering trips to
Himalayas and other Holy places made me make more sense of
what was happening inside. A series of deep mystical
experiences made me come closer and closer to the Divine
within and outside. Suddenly it all started making sense.
The ONE-ness was evident.
An intense calling from the heart, advice from the Masters
and the blessings of my God and Gurus lead me to take up my
mission of spreading the divine message of Yoga. Being born
in the Shaiva Advaita lineage and later on getting initiated
in the Advaita Vedantic Order makes my commitment towards
the “nondual” wholeness of everything strong.

Over the years
Yoga has grown on me and I have grown with Yoga. The more it
grows on me the livelier and happier my life becomes. As a
teacher I have seen it happen to my students too.
My thought,
speech and action steam out of yogic principles of love,
service, discipline, surrender and faith. Following Yoga in
its entirety is my practice and my teaching.
With the attitude of a learner I keep learning from Life –
My greatest Guru. |
